The First week for the First years

It’s been a roller coaster ride in these two months at LIBA!!!

That is just about how possible it is to sum up life at LIBA. Beginning from the very first week where the first years had entered this campus, a little brave but also a little frightened of what lay ahead. The frightening subjects and evaluation systems, the lectures given about “not finding you life partner at LIBA”, all added to the sceptism of the first years. But then came in the second years all excited at the prospect of ‘fresh blood’! The “Signature Campaign” marked the beginning of a week long ragging session.

We were to get signatures of the second years in the sheets that were handed. Sounds easy? Well it was not! The second years paved way for their creativity by coming up with innovative and fresh ideas to impose their presence on us. The tasks assigned ranged from finding out birthdays, dressing up tackily, solving impossible mathematical problems, to the usual, and asking out members of the opposite sex, climbing on trees and other such jobs. Everyday in the lunch hour it was a common sight to see the first years doing crazy things searching for the elusive signatures.

While the excitement brewed at that end, the classes started with gusto. With introduction to the new subjects, the anxiety was evident but that did not stop the enthusiasm and the spirit in every class. Most importantly, for all of us it was the prospect of meeting new people and making friends which was the biggest booster. First impressions were being made, and now two months down the line, it’s clear that they are not necessarily the best impressions.

The grand finale was the Fresher’s Party organized by the second years which was eagerly anticipated throughout the week. Everyone was seen sporting bandanas, beads loose flowy clothes, as the theme was “Hippies”. Many students were dressed in their best and the effort was well appreciated. The evening began with fun games and music and concluded by some brilliant performances by both the first and second years followed by dinner.

The first week at LIBA removed the uncertainties in many minds and increased the feeling of belonging in every individual. For all of us it will always remain the starting point of an unforgettable journey called “LIBA-LIFE”
